Self-Black Committee Members:
EYES: Dark brown, approaching black.
BILL: Drake- black, with olive shading toward tip permissible. Duck- black
SHANKS AND TOES: Shanks and toes black or slaty black while immature, usually acquiring orange tint
in adults.
Plumage: Uniformly black, with pronounced greenish luster throughout, except in speculum where a
subdued slight purple hue is permissible. Where other things are equal, the more pronounced the
greenish luster of the surface plumage, the more desirable the specimen.

Defects

Yellowed or light olive colored bills in drake; orange cast to leg color in both sexes, concealed white or
gray in plumage; minor exposed white in plumage at base of lower jaw; purple luster on surface, except
in speculum; lack of overall greenish sheen.

Disqualifications

Conspicuous white in any section of plumage
